This website is entitled " Urban Drug Recovery" simply because that is the course that we, as a people, should be taking. We should all seek a path of recovery from the devastating, enslaving effects of the urban drug epidemic that was spawned back in the 1960's. The side effects of this are evident in negative images that too many of our people portray to each other and to the outside world. Of course, everyone in the Black community does not live the street lifestyle of pimps, hustlers, drug dealers etc., etc., but the perception is of such.To give you an example, close your eyes for a moment and think of these two words, "Black Neighborhood". Be Honest, what are the first images that pop into your mind. This image can be changed, but WE have to change it. Nobody can do it for us. OUR BABIES' LIVES ARE AT STAKE!
Reentry into society with thoughts of our little ones instead of self, is key. We left them to struggle in the hostile environment we maintained. Now, after being incarcerated for crimes against EACH OTHER, will our reentry into the "hood" be with the same thinking as before? If so, we will wind up leaving them AGAIN, for YEARS, AGAIN in a situation that can very well lead them to an early grave. Even our unborn are in danger if WE don't change our own self destructive behavior.
Reentry does not only apply to the physically incarcerated. Keeping our own loved ones and babies in mind, we ALL need to reenter a more positive state of self awareness. Remember, our MAIN problem is not us against "them". WE are our own worst enemy. If your house is on fire, would you pour gasoline on it?
